Sandustry v0.5.7 Update #4: Pipes, Filters & Haulers

What Sandustry v0.5.7 changed for pipes, filters, lava containment, Hauler lines, blueprints, and existing factory troubleshooting.

Sandustry v0.5.7 / Update #4 was published on September 14, 2026. This page focuses on the changes that affect existing factories and the guides on this site, rather than reproducing the full changelog.

Pipe Placement and Blueprints Changed

The largest workflow change is the Pipe overhaul.

In v0.5.7:

  • newly placed Pipes no longer auto-connect to every adjacent Pipe;
  • extending a network requires starting or ending on an existing Pipe tile;
  • building across a crossing Pipe line can create a Pipe Bridge;
  • Pipe mode now supports selecting, moving, copying and pasting Pipes with the normal selection tools;
  • Undo includes Pipes;
  • Alt+C can select structures and Pipes together for unified blueprints.

If a pre-v0.5.7 tutorial tells you to rely on automatic adjacency when laying Pipe networks, that instruction is now stale.

Filter and Lava Fixes

Two changes matter for factory troubleshooting:

  • Lava can no longer leak through Advanced Filter Walls;
  • a bug that could create a pass-through Filter by picking a Filter Wall was fixed.

The ordinary Filter rules documented by the Official Wiki still apply: standard Filters pass liquids and gases, and reactions inside the Filter can create jams. The patch does not turn a normal Filter into a liquid-blocking wall.

See Filter jams and sorting for the current troubleshooting order.

Hauler Lines: Artifact-Room Restriction

v0.5.7 no longer allows new Hauler Lines to be assigned inside artifact rooms.

For routes that were already configured there, the patch notes say the hotbar overlay can be used to reassign the drop-off position.

This is separate from normal route management. The current Official Wiki documents that, with the Hauler Drone tool selected, the existing-line list can change pickup/drop-off positions, add or remove drones, or delete a route entirely.

See how to delete or edit Hauler routes for the current steps.

Building Stalls and Vacuum Fixes

Update #4 also fixed multiple unrelated problems that could cause buildings to stop working and propagate failures through a factory.

Other fixes include:

  • Vacuum element-duplication was fixed;
  • the Vacuum can no longer be filled with Clouds;
  • mirrored Conveyor Portals should pair correctly after Ctrl+H;
  • open Doors now allow Aerokinetic Fan airflow through them.

If a factory that previously required reloads stops stalling after v0.5.7, the patch may be the reason. If the problem persists, reduce the setup to a reproducible small case before assuming the recipe itself changed.

Important v0.5.6 Changes Still Affect Current Guides

The previous public update, v0.5.6, also changed mechanics that remain relevant in v0.5.7:

  • Lava density increased to 200;
  • Lava now destroys Fluxite, Redsoil and Strataform terrain;
  • a cold Thermal Buffer can convert Lava back to Cinder instead of fully consuming it;
  • flower/seedling recovery was improved, including attempts to return stuck or damaged seedlings to Wet Seeds;
  • one Wet Seed is intended to become exactly one Flower.

Those changes are reflected in the current Lava, Filter and Wet Seed guidance where they materially affect troubleshooting.

What Did Not Change Here

Update #4 does not announce changes to these core recipes:

  • 1 Sand + 1 Water → 2 Wet Sand;
  • 1 Seed + 1 Water → 1 Wet Seed;
  • 1 Void Petal + 1 Redsand → 2 Voidbloom;
  • 1 Voidbloom → 1 Fluxite.

Those are still documented by the current Official Wiki. This page will not infer hidden balance changes that are absent from the official release notes.
