Sandustry World Seeds, Map Size & World Generation
How Sandustry Random Seed works, which areas are procedural, what is currently fixed, and what is known about Map and Minimap unlocks.
Does the Random Seed Option Work?
Yes. A pinned Early Access FAQ posted by Hooded Horse says the Random Seed option is working.
Save the seed together with the game version when you share a world. Procedural generation is still being expanded during Early Access, so the same seed should not be presented as a permanent cross-version guarantee unless the developers explicitly confirm that behavior.
Is the Sandustry Map Procedural?
Partly, and the current structure is more specific than simply saying “procedurally generated.”
The pinned developer FAQ describes the current Early Access world like this:
- the starting area through the first portal uses randomized tiles;
- those tiles currently use a fixed set of connections;
- biomes currently have fixed limits;
- areas outside those tiles are fully procedural.
The developers also describe this as temporary while progression and balance are still being developed. More varied procedural generation is planned for future updates.
How Big Is the Sandustry World?
Not confirmed by the primary sources checked.
The current official material describes a large or vast open world, but it does not give a reliable numeric width, height, tile count, or hard world boundary that this guide can cite.
If a community post gives an exact map size without a current build test or developer source, treat it as unverified.
Can You Choose a Seed?
The current game has a working Random Seed option. The pinned official FAQ confirms that the option affects procedural generation.
What is not currently documented clearly enough to promise:
- exact seed input format;
- whether all generated details are deterministic from the seed;
- whether identical seeds remain identical after future generator changes.
Unlocking the Map and Minimap
The current Official Wiki Research page is marked WIP, but it presently lists Map / Minimap in Tier 1 for 100 Gold.
The official Beginner’s Guide describes the Minimap as showing the world around you beyond the main screen and says active objectives display a yellow direction arrow on it.
Treat the 100 Gold value as a research unlock cost, not a general map-use fee, and recheck the in-game Research tab after updates.
Workshop and Custom Maps
Steam Workshop support exists for Early Access and includes map/mod content. Keep Workshop map instructions separate from old Demo-era custom-map loaders.
