How to Break Crackstone in Sandustry

The Current Crackstone Rule

Crackstone is a hard terrain material.

The current Official Wiki states:

• Shovel: does not damage Crackstone;
• standard Gun: does not damage Crackstone;
• other digging tools: can destroy it;
• drop/yield: nothing remains after it breaks.

So you do not need a special processing chain after excavation.

Rocket Launcher: Earliest Clearly Documented Route

The current Rocket Launcher page says the weapon is unlocked through Tier 4 Research for 2,000 Gold and can destroy terrain that smaller digging tools cannot, including Crackstone.

That makes it the clearest current answer when a player reaches Crackstone before later excavation tools.

The Research page is marked WIP, so treat tier/cost numbers as version-sensitive and verify the in-game Research tab after future updates.

Later Excavation Tools

The current Research page also lists later tools such as:

• Drill — designed to break hard materials;
• Laser — sustained excavation through hard materials.

These are later alternatives, not evidence that the Rocket Launcher is the only tool capable of breaking Crackstone.

Why Old Demo Advice Can Be Wrong

Demo-era guides may refer to old research names, costs, or a rule that only explosives work.

The current Crackstone page is broader: the Shovel and Gun are the exceptions, while other digging tools can destroy Crackstone.

Use the current tool descriptions instead of searching for obsolete Demo unlock names.

Quick Troubleshooting

If Crackstone will not break:

1. confirm the material is actually Crackstone;
2. stop using the Shovel or standard Gun;
3. use the Rocket Launcher or a later digging tool;
4. do not wait for a resource drop after destruction.
