Sandustry Lumling Water Guide: Output, Space & Capture

Use Lumlings as a renewable Water source in Sandustry, understand their current output timing, and avoid layouts that stop them producing.

How much Water does a Lumling produce?

The current Official Wiki says a Lumling can release up to 12 Water every 6 to 10 seconds when it has enough free space.

Its production timer pauses if there is Water in the 4x4 area around it. Packing a Lumling into a flooded chamber can therefore stop the production you built the chamber for.

What space does it need?

Lumlings only produce Water when there is room around them. They stop producing while submerged in liquid or while surrounded by gas such as Steam.

Design the collection area so produced Water can fall or drain away from the creature instead of filling its immediate 4x4 neighborhood.

How do you move a Lumling?

Lumlings are Critters. The current Official Wiki says they can be captured and released using a Corraller.

More Lumlings raise total potential output, but each one still needs usable space. Simply stacking more creatures into the same flooded cell defeats the mechanic.

Lumlings or a rain loop?

Both are useful renewable-water approaches. Lumlings provide periodic local output. Regular Steam that reaches the Sky can return as rain, while a Cryoblaster can provide renewable Snow for that Steam route.

Use Infinite Water for the complete comparison, Pipes when you are ready to move collected Water, and Wet Seed automation for a major downstream Water use.
